The word “Kōlam” in Tamil signifies both form and beauty. Kōlam is also a daily women’s ritualistic art form created by Tamil Hindu women throughout Tamil Nadu in southeastern India.
As a symbol of auspiciousness and divinity, Kōlam is crafted using colored rice or rice flour and meticulously designed with intricate patterns. It reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Indian community while serving as a daily reminder of the beauty and impermanence of life.
